CURRENCY COSTS

Work backward from a target recipient amount

A fixed sender budget and a fixed recipient target are different problems.

Choose the amount that must arrive

A fixed sender budget and a fixed recipient target are different problems. When the recipient must receive a specified amount, calculate backward through any stated destination deduction and then through the exchange rate. The order matters because a charge in destination currency cannot be subtracted as though it were in the sender’s currency.

To leave 900 EUR after a 3 EUR deduction, convert 903 EUR worth and add a 5 USD sender fee. The curve is 903 / rate + 5; actual provider rounding can differ.

Reverse an illustrative fee schedule

Suppose the target is 900 EUR, a destination deduction is 3 EUR, the assumed rate is 0.90 EUR per USD, and the sender also pays a fixed 5 USD charge. The amount before the destination deduction must be 903 EUR. Dividing 903 by 0.90 gives 1,003.3333 USD to convert. Adding the sender charge gives 1,008.3333 USD. If funding must use cents and the target must not be undershot, rounding upward gives an illustrative 1,008.34 USD total.

Worked example: Target EUR: 900; Before deduction EUR: 903; Sender total USD: 1008.34. Invented values; units follow the row labels and article.

Verify by running the calculation forward

Subtract the 5 USD sender charge from 1,008.34 to obtain 1,003.34 USD. Multiply by 0.90 to obtain 903.006 EUR, then subtract 3 EUR to obtain 900.006 EUR before the final destination rounding rule. This confirms the direction of the arithmetic. A provider may round intermediate amounts differently, so the provider’s quote, not this worksheet, determines the actual required funding.

Flag unknown deductions instead of guessing

If an intermediary fee is unknown, you cannot establish an exact guaranteed recipient amount from this model. Record which amounts are fixed, estimated or unavailable. SanForex’s converter handles multiplication with a stated rate; it does not solve provider-specific transfer pricing. Use the calculation to understand a quote and ask precise questions, not to promise that an external transfer will deliver the modeled amount.
